Do you fit recreational, casual riders?
Heck yeah! Every body deserves a good fit. We serve beginners and casual riders, to racers and roadies alike.
What do I need to bring to my fitting?
- Your bike (only 1 bike per fitting session)
- Shoes you typically wear while cycling
- Cycling clothing (padded shorts/ bibs are best)
- Any orthotics or arch-support footbeds you may possess
Where is the fitmi! studio located?
fitmi! is located within the Sic Transit Cycles service repair building at 1001 Broadway St. Please enter through the side alley service door, to the right of the retail showroom building and head straight back to the studio.
Where do I park?
- Free shared parking is available behind the building, accessible from Broadway St. at Northside Grill or the driveway next to Sic Transit Cycles on Swift St.
- Saturdays: Free parking at the University of Michigan parking lot located kitty corner to the fitmi! studio on the corner of Broadway and Wall St.
What is your appointment cancellation policy?
If you are unable to keep a scheduled appointment, please give 48 hours advance notice to ensure you will not be charged the $75 missed appointment fee.
Payment?
Check, Zelle, or Cash is extra appreciated. All credit cards/ apple pay accepted, with a potential 3% processing fee. As a small business, any little thing helps!
What can I expect during a fitting?
Pre-fit Interview Before you get on the bike, we begin with an interview to learn about your injury history, riding experience, goals, and fit-related issues.
Pre-fit Assessment We perform a series of assessments to help give us the right clues to tailor your fit to your body. We evaluate your unique structural alignment, asymmetries, functional strengths/weaknesses, and flexibility as it pertains to cycling. Our philosophy is to best support your neutral on the bike, never to overcorrect or be heavy handed in the changes we make.
A Typical Fit Session Explores:
- Ranges of saddle height and leg extension
- Saddle fore/aft position and angle
- Saddle fit/width/contour
- Your relationship to the handlebars or aero-bars
- Knee analysis from the front view for pedaling efficiency
- Knee health (this entails cleat analysis/adjustments in the 5 available axes)
- To optimize contact points and your bike’s configuration, it is common to change/replace stems, handlebars, saddles, and existing footbeds
Is there a place to change into cycling clothing?
Yes! We have a dedicated change space in the studio. We also have access to the Sic Transit mechanics’ restroom.
Can I bring a guest to my fitting?
- It is preferred you come alone to your appointment—you’ll get the best experience this way. Our space is limited in size, and the fitting process is thorough—we have a lot to cover during a session.
- If the client is a minor, then absolutely it makes sense to have a parent or guardian present.
- Please make special arrangements in advance should you need to bring a guest.
Can I bring two bikes?
No, thank you! Our appointments are designed for 1 bike = about 3 hours. Maxine is very thorough and puts in a lot of brain power during a fitting. In the past when we’ve attempted two bikes during a single fitting, we’ve noticed the quality greatly suffers with the second bike and have decided that is not inline with the high level of service we aim to provide. For this reason we ask that you please schedule each bike as separate appointments.
What if I am getting new shoes?
It is best to get new shoes beforehand. Make sure they are a good fit, especially the width and room in the toe box. Shoes that are too tight can cause foot numbness.
Can I bring more than one pair of shoes?
Yes! We will match the second pair if time allows.
I’m a repeat client, can I get a fitting on a different bike?
Yes! We love repeat clients. Once you’ve had a fitting with us, following appointments tend to go a bit quicker since we have your measurements on file. We will prorate for time spent at $150/hr hourly rate. Just book your appointment as you normally do, and we’ll adjust the price at time of payment.
Do you fit fat bikes?
- No, unfortunately. Due to the constraint of the hub size, there is not a feasible nor safe way to conduct the fitting on an indoor trainer.
- If you’ve had a MTB fitting with fitmi!, we can match up the measurements to the best of our ability using your MTB numbers.
Should I order new bike parts –or– put on new handlebar tape?
- ⇨ IMPORTANT: Do NOT wrap your handlebars prior to the fitting. For Tri /TT bikes: DO bring the proprietary spacers, pedestals, and bolts that came with your aero-bars.
- We do not recommend buying any new bike parts prior to your fitting, unless you are able to easily make returns.
- We have the good fortune of working with Sic Transit Cycles, which stocks an array of stems, saddles, handlebars, and more. There is never any pressure to purchase parts/accessories, and we don’t make a commission. If you prefer to source parts yourself, we can make suggestions.
- We recommend holding off getting a tune up prior to your fitting. Often we might suggest getting your cables/housing changed. Waiting until after is usually the best way to go.
What if my bike has an integrated cockpit or proprietary handlebar/stem?
- Integrated and proprietary cockpits are a bike fitters nightmare. They look sleek and sexy, but they limit the changes we can make to improve your positioning. Often mounted in a negative angle orientation, and unless you’re racing in the Tour de France, it typically forces too much of an aggressive aero position.
- We highly recommend getting a Dynamic (Pre-Purchase) Sizing with fitmi! in advance of purchasing such a bike. No guarantee we’ll find one that will work for you, but we’ll try our best.
